Does your child have big behaviors that puzzle you, and no matter what you do or do not do, nothing seems to help?
Is the family beginning to walk on eggshells not knowing what is going to set off your child?
Maybe they are fine all day at school, and then they come home and unleash what seems to be anger.
As they grow, children and adolescents develop social skills and emotional intelligence. This awareness helps them to develop into healthy, resilient, and successful individuals.
For some children with more vulnerable nervous systems, they take longer to learn how to process their emotions and this often leads to big behavior that negatively impacts their school life, home life, and overall well-being. We know though….it is not about the behavior, but what is underneath it. We seek to understand their pain points.
Therapy offers children and adolescents a courageous space to be seen and validated. Here they can work through their thoughts and feelings and get to what is under those big emotions. This is a brave space where they can learn emotional literacy, conflict resolution, modify behaviors, and make positive and lasting changes.
At every age, children can be faced with life’s challenges. The following are some of the events and scenarios that can impact a child’s mental health and well-being:
- The death of a loved one
- Bullying
- Physical or sexual abuse
- Living with a chronic illness
- Living with a family member with chronic illness
- Partner violence
- Emotionally immature parenting
- Moving or attending a new school
- Divorce
- Anxiety
- Depression
- ADHD
- Eating disorders
Therapy is not a quick fix to a child’s behavioral or emotional issues. They do not need fixing because there is nothing wrong with them. Things have happened or are happening to them.
Therapy is a thoughtful and comprehensive process that provides children with insights and skills so that they may become masters of their thoughts and feelings. This, in essence, is how children develop into resilient, healthy, and successful adults.
